B.C. company claims these ‘cannabis cigarettes’ are a ‘better way of smoking’ pot

A small Canadian cannabis company has announced plans to sell “cannabis cigarettes,” essentially pre-rolled joints with a filtered tip like a typical Benson & Hedges, Export A, or Du Maurier smoke.

Kelowna, B.C.-based THC Biomed Intl Ltd. (THC.CN) claims to be the first Canadian producer to automate pre-rolling of cigarettes containing 100 per cent cannabis. The product is white with a yellow filtered tip, a colour scheme familiar to regular cigarette smokers.

John Miller, the company’s president and chief executive officer, described the cannabis cigarettes as a “better way of smoking cannabis,” and predicts conventional joints will become a thing of the past.

“We are pleased to be the first cannabis producer to put filters between the cannabis we are selling, and our consumers,” he said in a news release on Tuesday.

“Pre-rolled” joints have become a fixture in the legal cannabis system, offering an old school smoking experience to those who don’t want to grind their own cannabis and twist up a traditional joint.

“Filters” on such products are basically just a hollow paper tip section.

THC Biomed said its Pure Cannabis Cigarettes will come in packages of three or 20. The company said it sees its CBD line of filtered cigarettes proving popular among tobacco users looking to kick the habit.

“We expect regular cigarette users will find it easier to transition to our CBD product, which we think is better than smoking tobacco,” Miller added in the release.

According to regulatory filings, THC Biomed has sold cannabis clones to licensed medical marijuana patients since December 2016, and dried flower to medical users since August 2017, before commencing recreational sales on Oct. 17, 2018.

According to the company’s website, it also has a container product for safely shipping clones, and a cannabis beverage in development called THC Kiss.

THC Biomed expects its Pure Cannabis Cigarettes will be available soon on its website for medical patients, and through provinces with distribution agreements with the company.
